TF2 Spy Detection: Cloak, Disguise, and Clear ESP
Spies win games when your team stops looking. This guide covers the tells you can learn for free — and how class-filtered ESP helps when a cloak is already in your spawn.
Tells you can learn without tools
Watch for teammates who do not call, walk through your body, or hold a weapon the real class never holds. The Official Team Fortress Wiki Spy page is the clean reference for cloak and disguise rules. On 2Fort, Spies love the sewers and battlement drops. On payload, they love the cart cluster and engineer nests.
Pyro airblast and a quick spy-check still matter. Tools do not replace game sense. They only make the first second of a cloak less of a coin flip.
How class ESP changes the fight
TF2 ESP can tag class names and distance through walls. Filter for Spy so the overlay stays quiet. Pair it with radar so a cloak behind you is not a surprise on last point.
Keep opacity low in 6s. High-opacity boxes in a nine-class pub are noise. Tune categories on Features before you queue.
What not to do
Do not stare at walls the whole match. Do not call every teammate a Spy in voice. Do not rage-toggle aimbot the moment a cloak decloaks — that is how you get clipped and reported.
Check Status after VAC patches. Then play. Spy hunting is a habit, not a panic button.
